The Learning Tree Montessori’s Mission:

To nurture and educate a diverse community of preschool students and their families to be curious, compassionate, caring citizens and catalysts of positive social change. We are committed to providing a Montessori environment that fosters independence, a lifelong love of learning, and lasting relationships.

The Learning Tree is a progressive, established Montessori school that offers year-round care to children 2 ½ to 6 years of age.  We are a truly child-centered program, with an amazing staff of seasoned educators and a deep commitment to the practice of outstanding early childhood education. We’ve been supporting families since 1979, and are located in a charming house in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle.

At The Learning Tree we focus on the emotional and social development of children. We also provide an academically rich and inviting space for them to freely explore, and we have a large play yard where we have two outdoor classrooms.  We believe that the ability to be in healthy relationship with others is critical when it comes to success in the world and personal satisfaction in life.  At The Learning Tree children are guided toward developing their individuality while learning how to be in community with others with compassion.

Please call us to learn more about our dynamic and lively program or visit our admissions page for information about our application process.

We have Purchased Our Forever Home!

After 43 years of renting this old house in the heart of Capitol Hill, The Learning Tree, a non-profit preschool, now have our forever home.

The purchase was finalized on August 30th 2024.

This special piece of property, with a huge playground, room for our outdoor classroom (the California room!), and the home-like atmosphere LT kids and families love, is now ours because of community support.

We now need our entire community’s financial support to secure our beloved school and be mortage free so that we can continue to be a full-day Montessori school educating a diverse community of preschool students and their families to be curious, compassionate, caring citizens!

The Learning Tree is currently fundraising to pay make improvements and pay off the loans on the building.
