We are a year-round preschool that ‘begins’ in September and goes through the middle of August. Children are encouraged to attend all year to take advantage of our inclusive, dynamic program. We are one of the most established preschools in Seattle and one of the few all-day programs that offers excellent Montessori education from dawn to dusk.
We encourage you to learn about Montessori philosophy before applying to our school, so that you have an understanding of what we are hoping to achieve during our partnership. We ask that families make at least a two-year commitment to The Learning Tree so that you can reap the benefits of the multi-age grouping and longitudinal curriculum that we provide.
Applications will be accepted from November 1, 2018 through February 1, 2019 for the 2019-20 school year. After this deadline has passed then please call us to see if there are any spots available for your child.
Please include an application fee of $50 with your paperwork when you deliver it to us. Your application fee is waived if you are also applying for financial aid or qualify for City or State subsidy programs.
As far as age requirements go, students must be at least 2 years and 6 months of age when they begin school with us. We typically do not enroll students older than 3 years and 9 months of age to ensure that families are able to attend for at least two years, but we do make exceptions when a student has been in a Montessori program prior to applying to The Learning Tree.
We encourage families to apply for financial aid who need it. Before applying for The Learning Tree’s financial aid we ask families to first find out if they are eligible for either The City of Seattle Childcare Subsidy Program by calling (206) 386-1050, or your local Department of Social and Health Services office (based on the neighborhood you live in). These programs may cover 50% of tuition for eligible families. We ask that you turn in your financial aid information by our application deadline (February 1, 2019). All requests for aid from The Learning Tree’s scholarship fund must be accompanied by a copy of the previous year’s Internal Revenue Service 1040 form that was filed, and all related schedules.
You are invited to submit an application at any time, but there are steps that you need to take before it is considered complete.
We ask that you sign up for a tour, for adults only, so that you can come and see our school. We will have the tour schedule ready to go by the last week in October, 2018. Call us at 206-324-4788 to sign up for one; they are held on Fridays from November through late January. It is a chance to see a circle time, our fantastic outdoor area, and a classroom in action during the morning work period. We will answer your questions and give you some of the background on how we were founded –in 1979!—and why we love what we do.
If you like what you see and learn on the tour, we ask that you continue with the process and attend an Open House, for adults only. This coming admission cycle we will have one in November 2018, and another in January 2019; both are drop-in events, from 10am until noon. You don’t need a reservation. This is a great time to meet the teachers and hear more about how the day unfolds. We have an outstanding staff of experienced and skilled early childhood educators—come and hear why they practice their craft at The Learning Tree!
Finally, once you’ve turned in your application, we may contact you to come in for a family interview. These are typically around 30 minutes long and it is an informal opportunity for us to get to know your family a little bit more. We ask that you bring your child(ren) with you so that we can meet them, too.
An application is considered complete when you have taken a tour, attended an open house, and provided us with a completed application.

Open House dates: November 2018 and January 2019. Specific dates will be provided in September 2018.
Commitments from new families will need to include a non-refundable deposit of your first month’s tuition. Families who are eligible for State or City subsidy programs will need to submit the equivalent of 50% of their anticipated co-pay as a deposit.
Invitations to join our school will be sent out via email in mid-February.
